Sanctuary is a novel by William Faulkner about Temple Drake, a young woman whose flirtatious behavior leads to her kidnapping and sexual assault by the criminal Popeye, and her subsequent false testimony in a murder trial. Its sequel, Requiem for a Nun, follows Temple years later as a married mother who is forced to confront her past after the children's nurse is sentenced to death for murdering Temple's infant daughter, ultimately leading Temple to confess her own role in the tragedy.
